VARIOUS STUFF - SNOW JANUARY 2007 in MOSSLEY & SADDLEWORTH
BACK TO LOCAL PHOTO INDEX

After a mild and snow free winter so far it finally turned more seasonal on 21 January with showers of sleet, hail and at last snow. This is above Uppermill during the afternoon - the approaching cloud brought a couple of hours of snowfall

The evening of 21 January on Stockport Road near the Mossley/Saddleworth border. Snow depths weren't great at around 5cm, less on the wet pavements but it was better than nothing!

The following evening, 22 Jan - not a great photo, but I was trying to show the snow covered hills standing out against the night sky. Noonsun Hill can just about be seen across the valley while the snow in the fields had thinned out after a cold but sunny day. Taken from Stockport Road Mossley.

The morning of 25 January, still snow on the higher slopes and the morning sun lights up Wharmton.

I finally had chance to get out into the hills on 26 January, typically the day it turned cloudy and milder! This waterlogged and frozen field is below Stockport Road on the Mossley/Saddleworth border with Noonsun and Buckton Hills across the valley.

On Chew Reservoir dam a minute after the above photo as the cloud drifts over and the view vanishes.

Drifts on the edge of Dove Stone moss

Looking down from Dove Stone Rocks to the reservoir and beyond towards Mossley, the snow had largely vanished from the valley.
