BACK TO LOCAL PHOTO INDEX

Following from the previous photos on New Years Day, the start of January continued cold.

This is the frozen Huddersfield Narrow canal at Diggle on 4th January, a grey and raw day with temperatures around 0c.

The next nine photos were all taken on the afternoon of 6th of January, it was below freezing all day and the thin cover of snow had fallen on the night of the 4th.

This is the canal again, at Roaches Lock, Mossley .

Another view at Roaches Lock.

Roaches, Mossley.

Pots and Pans, with the Saddleworth war memorial, catching the last of the afternoon sun. The houses of Greenfield are below.

Above Greenfield heading towards Dovestone.

The icy and very slippery bridlepath leading down to Dovestone

The view from the dam of Dovestone Reservoir towards Mossley, it was bitterly cold!

Dovestone Reservoir at dusk, the edges of the reservoir were frozen as seen in the foreground

On Knowl Top Lane above Greenfield. I think the bright thing in the sky is Venus.

There was another snow fall in the early hours of 7 January, this is the scene over the rooftops of Top Mossley beneath the low cloud.

The last photo of this cold spell. Taken on the afternoon of 10th January with the still mostly frozen canal at the boundary of Mossley and Saddleworth, looking to Wharmton Hill with some large snow patches remaining.
