December 2008 started suitably seasonally. A couple of geese slither along the frozen Huddersfield Narrow canal at Greenfield on the 1st.

The following day there was a short heavy snowfall in the area during the early morning, this is the scene on Stockport Road, Mossley around 0830 in the morning.

Snow covered Carrhill Road, Mossley on 2nd December 2008 with the church spire disappearing into the low cloud.

More snow was forecast for the morning of the 4th, instead it fell as sleet and rain but there was still snow on the ground as seen at Lydgate. Much of the snow thawed during the day in the rain but it stayed mostly cold and frosty for a few more days
