VARIOUS STUFF - PHOTOS OF A SNOWY WALK UP POTS & PANS JANUARY 2010
BACK TO LOCAL PHOTO INDEX

Haw Clough Lane, Greenfield on the way up to Pots and Pans.

At the top of Haw Clough Lane snow was drifting in the wind.

And this is the start of the path up Pots and Pans which follows a deep gully, however today I'd have to find a different route! Saddleworth war memorial can be seen on the hilltop partially obscured by the blowing snow.

Another view of the snow filled gully. It could do with a person stood infront of the drift to give some scale, if there was someone there it would be above head height.

On the top after a tough struggle trying to find the less deep areas of the hillside, not easy at it was often waist deep snow. The photo was taken in the shelter of the 'Pots & Pans' stones to get out of the strong and bitterly cold east wind.

Braving the wind to take a photo of the stones.

The arctic scene across to the moors round Dovestones.

Looking back towards Pots & Pans on an aborted attempt to continue the walk, blowing snow fills the air to the left. Walking into the wind, not being able to see through the snow and constantly sinking into the deep drifts meant it made sense to turn back!

In the shelter of rocks with snow blowing past.

A view down the Tame valley towards Mossley as more snow blows past to join its friends on the hillside.

Looking the opposite way to Uppermill and beyond.

Back down near the bottom of the hill, the depth of the snow can be seen by looking at the wall and fence.

A last look up to Pots & Pans and the snow filled path.

Walking down Knowl Top Lane towards Uppermill, a JCB had been busy digging the lane clear all morning.

Heading for home (after a couple of pints!) along the Huddersfield Narrow Canal near Greenfield.
