VARIOUS STUFF - KINDER SCOUT WALK, 23 FEBRUARY 2010
BACK TO PEAK DISTRICT PHOTO INDEX

A few photos on what has become an annual winter revisit to Kinder Scout in the years since I moved away from living nearby.

This is walking up the bridlepath from Moorfield, Glossop looking back to the town.

On Black Moor above Glossop, not the most appropriate name for the moor today.

View from Black Moor towards Bleaklow in blowing snow.

Another view on Black Moor. There was a strong bitter wind and my walk up the moor meant heading right into it being blasted by the blowing snow, not nice and making it very hard to see.

But being the hero/fool I am I struggled up to the top where I could turn out of the wind and head towards Kinder, seen here looking very impressive.

The north west end of Kinder from Ashop Head

On Mills Hill. A figure can be seen making his way down the snow slopes, one of only 2 walkers I met all day.

On the top looking down to Kinder Reservoir.

Heading along the western edge of Kinder Scout.

Nearing the downfall.

Stood on the deep ice that is the River Kinder at the top of the downfall.

The downfall which was just sheets of ice in a fierce bitingly cold wind.

Venturing into the Kinder plateau

The peat was frozen solid so that wasnt a problem to walk on, it was the deep drifts and blinding blowing snow that made it a bit tricky. Great fun!

But I managed to get to Kinder Low trig point, a quick photo of which taken while braving the wind before getting back to the shelter of the rocks.
