Clough Head seen from Thelkeld, where I began this walk 2 hours later than planned after my train was late and missed the bus connection at Penrith. Being a Sunday the next bus wasnt until 2 hours later, not much time to get the walk done before it went dark.

I took no photos of my actual walk Clough Head, it was over uninteresting steep grass slopes and thick low cloud had moved in obscuring the view. But as I neared the summit the cloud thinned and the sun shone through, the summit can just about be seen on the left.

I only spent a few minutes at the top but it was one of those superb mountain moments when the cloud suddenly lifts and what had been a grey world becomes stunning views. This is looking to Great Dodd through the mist.

The path over the summit continues over Calfhow Pike, seen here, then off to Great Dodd (out of site to the left). This was to have been my route, but it was too late to do the walk before it went dark (and I'd have missed the last bus... ), so I just had time for this photo in the late afternoon sunlight before turning back.

No sooner had I turned round to head down the cloud rolled in again and visibility was back down to a few metres. This was the view for most of my decent from Clough Head .

I made it back to the Old Coach Road by dusk, and to Threlkeld in time
for a swift pint before the bus to Keswick. I stayed in Keswick for a
couple of days and a couple more walks, pics on the next couple of pages.
