VARIOUS STUFF - GREAT DODD & STYBARROW DODD WALK - 09 March 2009
BACK TO LAKE DISTRICT PHOTO INDEX

Setting off above Legburthwaite, this is looking north from Castle Rock towards Blencathra under a gloomy sky

The opposite view to Thirlmere, with a shaft of sunlight and snowy mountains beyond.

On the summit of Great Dodd in a very strong bitterly cold wind, it was hard to stay standing in the gale on the icy ground. Blencathra is in the background.

The view south from Great Dodd towards Helvellyn.

A similar view minutes later as a blizzard of hail and frozen snow blows in.

Having battled through the storm, this is the view from Watson's Dodd back to Great Dodd as the clouds clear.

Once the shower had passed the views were stunning. Skiddaw is to the right and Bassenthwaite Lake beyond

Skiddaw and Blencathra from Watson's Dodd.

On Stybarrow Dodd looking back the way I'd walked.

The ski tow in action at Raise (it's hard to make out on this small sized photo - but there are people skiing!)

The view east near Stybarrow Dodd to the southern edge of Ullswater and High Street forming the snowy backdrop.

Near the top of Sticks Pass with the path continuing up Raise and Helvellyn behind.

More stormy clouds as I made my way back down.
