VARIOUS STUFF - CYCLING IN THE PEAKS
BACK TO OTHER THINGS PHOTO INDEX

I live on the edge of some superb cycling country, so here's some photos of my bikes on various rides. This is in the Goyt Valley on the first trip out on my then my brand new Marin Hawkhill.

Above Pott Shrigley nr Macclesfield. I spend some of my time riding on lanes like this but also like to get off road on the many routes in the Peak District and Pennines.

Such as here, below Mount Famine above Hayfield.

Above the Goyt Valley. If you're in to bikes then as mentioned this is a Marin Hawkhill but over time I upgraded it with LX brakes & gears and other improvements such as better pedals and saddle. * but see below - after several years faithful service I now have a new bike!

On the old road from Whaley Bridge to Buxton.

On the same track in deep snow.

On the Longdendale trail at the old Woodhead Railway tunnel.

On the Snake Path near Hayfield, just a few miles from home (well it was till moved house).

At the bottom a steep, rocky climb on the bridleway from Hayfield to Rushup Edge. It took me several attempts at this route before I could get to the top without stopping, it is steeper, rougher and more slippery then it looks. But now I can always (well usually always) manage it in one go!

On the way to Yorkshire, on the Trans Pennine Trail above Woodhead

My new bike! A Malt 1 from Merlin cycles with full XT spec. Disc brakes and front suspension with proper travel at last! Makes rides like this above Hayfield much less traumatic - it's nice to be able to stop when going down steep hills in the wet and mud!

My new local area of Saddleworth. The Merlin next to Dove Stone reservoir

A steep climb from the above photo, at Chew Reservoir on Saddleworth Moor
