VARIOUS STUFF - AONACH BEAG & AONACH MOR WALK - May 2010
BACK TO SCOTLAND PHOTO INDEX

The walk started from the campsite in Glen Nevis. This photo is actually taken the previous evening looking down the Glen.

After a long walk down the lane to the end of the Glen this is in the Nevis Gorge.

Looking back down the Nevis Gorge.

Emerging from the Gorge heading to Steall Falls, seen on the right.

The walk then headed uphill for a long steep trudge up grassy slopes, nothing very photogenic especially under a cloudy sky - so I plodded on and didn't take any pics! But eventually the view opened up to reveal mountains as far as you could see.

I then turned to follow the cliff tops heading to Aonach Beag, passing remains of the winter's snow.

The view. Steall Falls, which I passed earlier, is now far below in the centre of the photo

Nearing Aonach Beag on the right, with Ben Nevis to the left.

In the snow on top of Aonach Beag, looking to Ben Nevis.

The view south from Aonach Beag to the Mamores and the mountains of Glencoe beyond.

A zoomed in view south, I think the snowy mountain in the centre is Bidean Nam Bian in Glencoe (but I may be wrong!)

Aonach Mor seen from Aonach Beag, taking care not to get too near the edges with their large cornices of snow.

Heading down from Aonach Beag to Aonach Mor.

At the summit of Aoanach Mor, looking back to Aonach Beag.

The view east from Aoanach Mor to the Grey Corries and in the far distance on the left are the snowy Cairngorms.

Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis from Aoanach Mor.

Cornices along the edge of Aonach Mor.

More cornices, this one looks about to collapse.

The top of the Aonach Mor ski slopes as a small hail shower passes behind.

Looking down the ski slopes to Loch Eil.

The view North East down the Great Glen.

Making my way back down Aonach Mor. Yes, OK, I cheated! This is obviously taken from onboard a gondola.

I had walked down the slopes to the Gondola station then lept aboard for a lift to the ski centre. But I still had to walk back from the centre to the road for a bus back to Fort William, and my walk had started at the Glen Nevis campsite - a long way and I deserved a bit of help!
