VARIOUS STUFF - BEINN EIGHE WALK via Corie Mhic Fhearchair
BACK TO SCOTLAND PHOTO INDEX

On a gloomy day of low cloud I decided to do a relatively low level walk to Corie Mhic Fhearchair in Torridon. This is Liathach partly hidden in the cloud.

Another view of Liathach (I think!)

Looking back nearing the Corie to the emptyness of Flowerdale Forest

and the view ahead beneath the Ruadh Stac Mor summit of Beinn Eighe

another look back from the edge of Corie Mhic Fhearchair

And finally Corie Mhic Fhearchair itself beneth the cliffs of Beinn Eighe

A couple more views in Corie Mhic Fhearchair...

...

the triple butress of Beinn Eighe, shame the top was hidden in the cloud, but very impressive non the less

Now I had planned a 'low level' walk (though the Corie itself is 600 metres asl), but increasing breaks in the cloud and the closness of the summit of Beinn Eighe were too much of a temptation so I set off up the slopes. This is looking back down to the Corie.

On Beinn Eighe, with blue sky (well a little bit)!

Looking ahead to the Ruadh Stac Mor summit of Beinn Eighe, 1010 metres asl. Apparently the views are fantastic, not today though.

Heading back from Ruadh Stac Mor, some good breaks in the cloud now.

Rather than slither down the very slippy scree covered slopes to the Corie I decided to head across the top of Beinn Eighe.

Of course I only did so being equiped with compass, detailed route maps and all the other essentials

Soon visibility was very poor as I made my way across the top.

But there were occasional sudden breaks in the cloud (this was taken less than a minute after the one above) giving dramatic breathtaking views - it was a long way down.

The way ahead to Beinn Eighe's second munro summit, Spidean Coire nan Clach, just visible as the clouds close in again.

The rest of the walk was done in very poor visiblity and it started to rain. I didn't take any more photos on top, I was too busy concentrating on getting down safely. This is the view as I finally dropped out of the cloud including to Loch Clair

Looking back up to the mountain hidden in the cloud. There was still the final mile and half walk back in the rain to the car park. A long fairly challenging day, but enjoyable (now it's over!)
