Looking down to Ballachulish as I headed up the slopes above the village, with Loch Leven behind and the Pap of Glencoe to the right.
The view west to the Ballachulish Bridge and Loch Linnhe.
Looking south to Glencoe.
The way ahead to Sgorr Bhan.
On top of Sgorr Bhan, with Ballachulish now far below and Ben Nevis is on the skyline to the left.
On the way to the first Munro, Sgorr Dhearg.
On the summit of Sgorr Dhearg, looking west to the second Munro summit Sgorr Dhonuill. Loch Linnhie heads out into the sea beyond.
The view down from Sgorr Dhearg to Sgorr Bhan. Sgorr Bhan means the 'White Peak', you can see why with its white (well OK, grey) quarttzite rock.
On the way to Sgorr Dhonuill as a shower approaches from the left.
Looking down from near Sgorr Dhonuill to the Balachulish Bridge, my walk down headed through the forest below - more of which later...
| | On Sgorr Dhonuill, looking back down the path to Sgorr Dhearg. The higher parts of the ridge were pretty narrow in places with some big drops to the side. |
As I made my way down Sgorr Dhonuill I got caught in one of the passing showers, seen here just before it hit. There was then a spell of hail, wet snow and a bitter wind. So no more photos for a while, I wrapped up, put my head down and battled on!
I took the route down from between the two peaks through a forest, very hard going as the path was wet and slippy and full of roots waiting to trip me up. At times it disappeared between dense trees, not much fun but eventually I reached a clearing.
And finally onto the forest track leading back to Ballachulish as the weather also cleared again. It was still a fair way back and I had to jog to make sure I made my bus back (and I did, with a minute to spare!)
On track back looking to Loch Leven and the Pap of Glencoe. |
