VARIOUS STUFF - PHOTOS OF A WALK ON GLYDER FAWR & GLYDER FACH - APRIL 2011

My second day walking in the mountains by Llyn Ogwen, and quite a contrast in the weather to yesterday.

This is as I set off from Ogwen Cottage in pouring rain.

Llyn Idwal. The mountains are all well hidden in the cloud and the rain was getting heavier.

My route ahead followed the path round the lake then headed up the ridge into the cloud. Somewhere up there is the summit of Y Garn.

Looking down to Llyn Idwal just before I disappeared in the cloud. It was still raining heavily. And windy. And cold. Yesterday was t- shirt and suncream, today full waterproofs, fleece and gloves.

Llyn Clyd, part way up the climb to Y Garn.

A view to Llyn Ogwen. Ogwen Cottage, where this walk started, can be seen at the end of the lake and Pen yr Ole Wen which I climbed yesterday is to the left.

Nearing the top, a temporary clearing of the cloud allowed a glimpse of the summit of Y Garn.

Heading down the other side of Y Garn. Beautiful views, apparently...

But the cloud breaking up in the wind allowing a view ahead to my next mountain, Glyder Fawr.

Nearing Glyder Fawr. The path heads round the left of the lake then steeply up a horrid scree covered slope.

Looking back to Y Garn.

Nearing the top of Glyder Fawr, hard going over boulders and with many weird shaped rock formations.

The rock strewn summit of Glyder Fawr.

On Glyder Fawr. What an odd place! Especially in the mist, if felt very spooky!

Looking the opposite way from beneath the cloud there were some views down towards Llanberis and the North Wales coast.

Down to Llyn Idwal, the Nant Ffrancon valley and Pen Yr Ole Wen

Walking along the clifftops to Glyder Fach.

Nearing Glyder Fach, another rock strewn summit.

The view west towards the sea.

On Glyder Fach, looking past Castell y Gwynt (the 'Castle of the Wind') to the cliffs leading back to Glyder Fawr.

The Nant Ffrancon valley from Glyder Fach.

Tryfan from Glyder Fach.

Some young walkers demonstrate the Cantilever Stone on Glyder Fach.

Dropping down from Glyder Fach. My walk followed the footpath straight ahead over Y Foel Goch and eventually down into Capel Curig.

Looking back to Glyder Fach, the famous (and too scary for me!) Bristly Ridge can be seen leading up to the summit. On the right is Tryfan, which I didnt climb this time but I intend to give it a go one day.

Walking back to Capel Curig, behind me it was gloomy but ahead was turning into a lovely sunny early evening (it didnt last, by the time I got back to my tent there was a hailstorm!)
