After the heavy snowfalls in early January there were some impressive icicles around, the kind I've not seen since the snowy winters when I was a lad in the 1980s!
Here's some photos taken around Mossley & Saddleworth in Greater Manchester.
not the biggest icicles, but notice the TV aerial leads encased in ice.
now these are icicles.
the ice and icicles catch the afternoon sun.
just the one icicle here, but it's a big one.
above the wall near the house you can see a section of ice held in mid air, this ice had formed on top of the snow but the snow depth had reduced leaving the ice still in place.
More snow hanging off roofs. The weight of icicles and snow sliding off roofs caused quite abit of damage, there were plenty of gutters torn off and broken pipework.
