Knowl Top Lane in Greenfield on 9th January after a JCB had spent the morning digging through the drifts.

Church Road, Uppermill, reduced to a single track road by the snow.

The Huddersfield Narrow Canal near Greenfield, much of the canal had been frozen since mid December.

The marina at Greenfield, that boat wont be moving for some time. As for the chair, I wouldn't risk it.

The next day was cloudy with light snow and a gusty east wind. The road from Mossley to Lydgate was suffering from drifting as it always does in those conditions, here a Land Rover squeezes though a gap cleared between the drifts. This is not a single track road but the other lane is buried.

Quickedge Road is a track which runs along Quick Edge from Lydgate to Mossley and was completely filled with drifts in a strong wind and the air was full of blowing and falling snow.

Some of the drifts were huge, that wall is around 6 foot high and the drift towers above it. It was just possible to clamber and squeeze though the gap next to the wall.

The track becomes a proper road as it enters Mossley, but the going was no easier.
