Remains of snow drifts on Quick Edge Lane above Mossley on 6 March 2010. Not too impressive, but in January I remember walking along here when the only way through was along the top of the embankment, the lane was completely filled with drifted snow several feet deep.
7 March at Dovestone. There were many big patches of snow on the hills but also some remained low down in the valley such as here by the bridge.
Some of the big drifted areas on the edge of Ashway Moss at Dovestone in Saddleworth. Figures can be seen making their way across the snow which gives an idea of the scale.
Another Saddleworth 'glacier' at Ashway Gap on 7 March. These areas had by now been snow covered for nearly 3 months and in most places it was solidly frozen so will be around for some time to come. (the last patches of local snow finally disappeared in the first few days of April).
Drifts by the stream at Ashway Gap. It felt warm in the sun but was icy in the shade after overnight temperatures below freezing.
The highest ground of the South Pennines still had a full snow cover, such as Black Hill seen in the distance from Raven Stones on 7 March 2010. |
