VARIOUS STUFF - REMAINS OF THE SNOW late March - May 2010
BACK TO WINTER 2009-2010 PHOTO INDEX

16 March 2010 with the remains of drifts near Hopegill Head in the Lake District, looking across to Grisedale Pike.

The top of Skiddaw was still snow covered on 16 March.

As were the higher mountains around Helvellyn.  For more pictures from this day's walk see here

There was a snowfall overnight on 30 March which gave a new covering on my local hills, with a little snow lying down to the level of my house (around 200 metres above sea level).

This is the view down the Tame Valley from Mossley on 1 April, most of the snow had thawed but there was still a cover on the higher hills to the right of the photo (not a great pic - it was taken duing a hail shower!)

The last of the winter's snow was still clinging on in some of the sheltered areas on the moors, such as here east of Chew Reservoir in Saddleworth., 4 April 2010.

A few patches of snow on Black Hill, West Yorkshire also on 4 April.

Snow patches in the Lake District on Glaramara and the surrounding mountains on a warm sunny 12 April 2010.

There were large areas of snow clinging on around Scafell Pike in the Lakes a week later on 17 April.

To see many more pics from the Lakes in April 2010 have a look in the Lake District section

The winter had been very snowy on the Scottish mountains. My first visit of the year to north of the border was not until late May, but there was still snow around and on a couple of my mountain walks that week snow actually fell in passing showers!

This is 25 May stood in the snow on top of Aonach Beag, looking across to Ben Nevis and Carn Mor Dearg.

Cornices on the edge of Aonach Deag, looking to Aonach Mor.

Nore cornices on Aonach Mor.

At the top of the ski runs on Aonach Mor. There was not enough snow left for skiing here, but over at Cairngorm much more snow remained and the ski runs were open.
