VARIOUS STUFF - BUXTON STATION & DEPOT 1980s - page 01

Through the 1980s I used to visit Buxton quite regularly to see and photograph the many engines which would be parked at the depot and in the station sidings at weekends, taking a break from working trains from the surrounding Peak District quarries.

One of the first train pictures I ever took. On 20 May 1984 locos seen are 25154, 37079, 45076, 20191 & 37223 along with a couple of class 104 DMUs.

A few weeks later 37113 and 37075 stand alongside Buxton depot - 13 July 1984.

On the same day 20191, 45010 and 47200 are seen next to the station.

20172 and friends, 17 August 1985.

A class 108 DMU along with 20172, 45076 and 20194 (and a Ford Capri) on a sunny but freezing 28 December 1985.

At the back of the depot I was surprised to see Scottish 37081 spending it's Xmas holidays in the Peak District! 28 December 1985.

8 February 1986 was a memorable Buxton visits for 2 reasons. One was very deep snow (though this was not unusual in a Buxton winter)! These cold class 20s are 20160 & 20034.

45007, 20148 & 20132

Reason two was the visit of the Derbyshire Dingle railtour. Here 45022 brings the tour into Buxton station.

The main tour loco was 50012 and here is the unique site of a 50 at Buxton, 8 Feb 1986

A week later there was still plenty of snow, 31210 & 31261 take a break from keeping the railways round Buxton open, 15 February 1986.
