The late 1980s suffered some of the mildest and most snow free winters
on record, but thankfully Buxton never escapes completely! 37682 &
37683 stand alongside the station on 23 January 1988.
The railways in the Buxton area are all around 1000 feet above sea level so are prone to deep snow and drifts. In winter the snow ploughs would be on standby as seen here with 31234 & 31259.
Also on 23 Jan 1988, 37259 and a class 108 DMU alongside the depot.
26 February 1989. 31255 & 31454 had obviously been out clearing the lines earlier in the week, passed here by a class 108 DMU arriving on a train from Manchester.

2 days later the snow had started to thaw. In dull misty wet weather on 10 December 1990 are 37683, 37681 and 37414.
By the mid 1990s Buxton
depot had closed and locos are now stored at Peak Forest. This view at
Peak Forest in March 2000 shows the new era with class 60s & 66s having
replaced the 20s, 25s, 31s, 37s, 40s, 45s and 47s I remember.
