| Despite getting interested in trains in late 1982 and living only 12 miles south of Manchester I didn't visit Victoria station until early 1986. I found it a fascinating place compared with the electrified services south of the city I was more used to, with it's variety of diesel hauled passenger trains, various freight workings and interesting surroundings, and I became a regular visitor. | |

On the same day parcels unit 920 (former class 127 DMU) rolls into the station past 31282. There was always an engine (usually a 31) parked here to bank trains up the steep incline to Miles Platting when needed (not often), do a bit of shunting etc. |
