On 7 June 1986 class 25 25249 was the station pilot/banking engine at Victoria. Once this was a regular job for a 25 but by 1986 it was almost always a class 31.

3 'Peaks' on 24/07/1986. 45141 is nearest on 1203 Liverpool - Scarborough passing 45058 & 45009.
Until visiting Victoria I didn't often encounter class 45s but during 1986 I soon saw all the remaining Peaks.

I also spent some time riding behind class 45/1s on Trans Pennine services to and from Stalybridge. I did see a few 45/0s work these trains as well, but never on any I did.
On 24 July 1986 45101 arrives with the 0817 Holyhead - Newcastle. This was one of the earlier 45/1s to be withdrawn, only lasting another 4 months.

Like the 25s, class 45s were also a class in decline but could always be seen at Victoria. On 20 Sept 1986 45046 & 45013 are in the loco sidings along with 31285 and 25176.
