VARIOUS STUFF - RHOSNEIGR RAIL PHOTOS 1984 - 1998
BACK TO INDEX

Rhosneigr is a small coastal village on the isle of Anglesey, North Wales which I first visited in 1984 when we had a family camping holiday there. I was delighted to find the camp site overlooked the North Wales Coast mainline!

That first week I saw class 25s, 40s, 45s and 47s on freight & passenger trains but the only photo I took is 47537 heading an evening Euston to Holyhead train, 27 August 1984.

We returned in 1987, by then class 25s and 40s had gone and almost all remaining hauled passenger trains were class 47s. Here 47454 heads the 1656 (Sun) Holyhead - Euston, 24 May 1987.

Besides passenger trains there were still several freight services. 47295 heads a westbound freighliner from the docks at Holyhead, 27 May 1987.

By the 1990s I'd given up trains and going on family holidays! But I did return to Rhosneigr and the sight of class 37s tempted me to get my camera out. This is 37402 on a train from Holyhead, 8 July 1995.

the following day 37405 heads the 1422 (Sun) Holyhead - Crewe train.

Rhosneigr is also next to RAF Valley and in this lucky picture I caught 37417 passing an RAF Sea King helicopter on a training flight.

Another view of 37417 on 1353 Holyhead - Crewe, 5 September 1996.

a photo taken while sat outside the tent, 37408 works the 1518 Crewe - Holyhead, 5 Sept 1996.

37422 on a Birmingham to Holyhead service, 29 August 1998.

The Sunday afternoon Holyhead - Birmingham service was worked by 2 class 37s, on 30 August 1998 these were 37415 and 37421.
