VARIOUS STUFF - BIRMINGHAM DRAGS 1988
BACK TO INDEX

From late August until November 1988 trains from Birmingham to London were diverted via Nuneaton, needing diesel haulage and using various 'freight' locos. I went to ride on these trains once in the summer, then each Sunday from October.

On the first Sunday of the 'drags', 58028 leads 87005 at Nuneaton on the 0948 Wolverhampton - Euston, 21 August 1988.

58006 at Birmingham New Street having hauled 86252 and the 1040 Euston - Wolverhampton on Sunday 9 October 1988.

58006 again, this time with 85012 as they prepare to leave New Street with the 1328 Wolverhampton - Euston.

Also out on 9 October was 37230, seen arriving at Nuneaton with 86252 and the 1418 Wolverhampton - Euston.

On 16 October 1988 58015 runs into Nuneaton station with 86234 and the 1018 Wolverhampton - Euston.

58014 and 86204 at Birmingham with the 1040 Euston - Wolverhampton on 6 November 1988.

58003 and 86253 at Nuneaton, 06/11/1988 on the 1218 Wolverhampton - Euston.

One of the moves on these Sundays was to head to Rugby for the 1400 Euston - Birmingham as this train was booked for one of the then new class 90s. On 6 November 90004 was in charge.

47379 waits at New Street to drag the 1420 Shrewsbury - Euston on 13 November 1988.
