VARIOUS STUFF - LOSTOCK DIVERSIONS, 1988 - 89

In winter 1988 - 89 Sunday West Coast Main Line trains were diverted between Preston and Wigan via Lostock Junction with class 20s used to drag the trains from Lostock to Wigan.


On 20 November 1988, the first Sunday of the Lostocks, 20224 and 20219 are seen at Wigan having worked the 1225 Preston - Bristol.


20051 and 20055 on 27 November 1988 at Wigan North Western on the 1330 Preston - Euston.

Train engine for the 1330 Preston - Euston on 4 December 1988 was 47636.

On the other end of the same train are 20175 and 20010.

On 11 December 1988 20218 and 20189 with the 1225 Preston - Bristol at Wigan North Western.

Most Sundays 2 pairs of 20s were used, though I could only arrive in time to cover one pair each weekend. On 11 December the second pair were 20187 and 20088, seen at Wigan waiting to head to Lostock.

The 1330 Preston - Euston on 18 December 1988 with 47280 as the train engine with 31438 providing heat.

15 January 1989 with 20090 and 20120 at Wigan waiting to go to Lostock while behind in the station are 20117 and 20065 having arrived on the 1225 Preston - Bristol.
