VARIOUS STUFF - COAL SCUTTLER RAILTOUR - MAY 1991
BACK TO INDEX

On 25 and 26 May Pathfinder Tours ran the Coal Scuttler railtour which headed to Scotland before returning overnight to the Coalville Open Day with a feast of different engines used. I joined the train a Stafford with 47818 in charge as far as Warrington Bank Quay...

at Warrington the monitor screen listed the booked engines, but things soon failed to go to plan

20117 and 20121 are seen in the bay at Warrington, they should have worked the tour north but had failed, instead 20175 and 20131 were found and can be seen backing on beyond the crowds

20175 and 20131 at Carlisle having just about managed to stagger over Shap with 20131 suffering problems on route.

At Carlisle 37245 and 26038 took over to haul the tour into Scotland

Arriving at Ayr behind 37245 and 26038, with class 20s 20138 and 20124 waiting to take over for a trip to Killoch and Waterside.

20138 and very smoky 20124 head the tour on the Killoch branch, 26002 and 26007 were on the other end of the train.

At Carlisle in the early hours of 26 May 1991 as 20013 and 20141 wait to take over from 37245 and 26038. I needed 20013 for haulage - my 100th different class 20 (not bad as I only had my first one in 1988)!

At Preston the 20s were replaced by 56018

The tour eventually arrived at Coalville where the annual open day was taking place. 50008 and 50015 were among the exhibits

As was class 28 D5705

60032 and 60057 at Coalville waiting to bring the stock into the platform - by now I was very tired and just wanted to get home but due to a complete balls up we left around 3 hours late.

Final engine of the tour was 56021 which took over from the 60s at Nuneaton, seen here approaching Coventry.

Besides the engines pictured and mentioned above we also had 56018, and 58048 for a brief shunt at Coalville
